For the avid enthusiast of serene walks by the waterfront, the Shelter Island hotel is a heaven. Most of the walkable amenities are available alongside the island and take the shape of the lovely bayside path that runs across it. This flat beautiful jogging track in the morning or walk in evening stretches along side the bay for most of its length providing scintillating views of hundreds of yachts in the marina and downtown skyline far off. At one end of it stands the touching Tunaman's Memorial statue together with a public fishing pier from where one may watch the neighboring anglers in action

A few of San Diego's most iconic restaurants are within walking distance from 10–15 minutes. The most famous of these is the Bali Hai Restaurant, an authentic tiki-themed affair known for its strong Mai Tais, and its all-encompassing bay view. You can also walk to several other upscale seafood and steak restaurants located in the hotels along Shelter Island Drive. This provides for a good experience of dining without having to get into a car.

While the island itself is pretty easy to explore on foot, it is for the most part in itself as there is no grocery, convenience, or sundry shopping within easy walking distance. Most practical needs will entail a short drive into “town” in the Point Loma community. The walkability is more entertainment and view-based than chore-based, which makes the property feel truly resort-like and escapist for its guests.
